Rules and Regulations

“LOVE IS IN THE AIR”

March 14, 2010

Sponsored by Mission: Renaissance

in partnership with

Santa Clarita Creative Guild

Purpose of the Competition:

The Council for Art Education, Inc. has named the month of March as “Youth Art Month”. As the world’s leader in fine art education Mission: Renaissance is sponsoring an art contest for the youth of the Santa Clarita Valley community. This competition is being offered as a way of increasing awareness of the importance of art in the education of our children.

Selected art works will be displayed as part of the annual art and music event, “Love Is In The Air.” The event is a celebration of art and music and a showcase for local talent of all ages.

Who May Enter:

The contest is open to children ages 4 to 12 years. Children within the age range must meet one or more of the following eligibility requirements.

  • must live in the Santa Clarita Valley or
  • must attend school in the Santa Clarita Valley or
  • must attend an art school or program in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Contest Rules:

  • Fee for entry is $5/entry. Entry fee must accompany submitted art work. Only cash or check will be accepted. Checks should be payable to Mission: Renaissance.
  • Art works should pertain to the theme of the competition which is “Springtime in Santa Clarita.”
  • Entries shall be any medium except sculpture or three dimensional media and photography.
  • Entries shall be presented either matted or framed. Total measurement is not more than 11″ x 14″ when framed or matted.
  • Deadline for entries is Monday, March 1st, 2010.
  • Artist’s signature must be confined to lower right corner of work.
  • All participants are free to attend the Hyatt event with a paid adult. Tickets are available prior to the event from Mission: Renaissance at a discounted price.
  • Participants are responsible for collecting their artwork after the event.

Judging:

Entries will be judged in three different categories:

  • 4-6 years old
  • 7-9 years old
  • 10-12 years old

Within each age category, there will be an award of first, second and third place and the prizes that accompany that award.

Judging will be based on the following criteria:

  • incorporation of theme
  • originality
  • understanding and control of medium
  • visual appeal

Judges will be selected from the community by the Santa Clarita Creative Guild and are in no way affiliated with Mission: Renaissance.

How to Enter:

  • Download and print the contestant entry form. DOWNLOAD ENTRY FORM
  • Attach completed entry form to back of art work.
  • Deadline for entries and fees is Monday, March 1, 2010.
  • Drop off entries and $5 entry fee per entry (cash or check payable to Mission: Renaissance) at Mission: Renaissance Fine Art School located off of McBean and Decoro. 23924 Summerhill Lane, Santa Clarita, CA 91354.

Hours of drop-off are as follows:

Mondays 7-10 pm  
Tuesdays   2-10 pm
Wednesdays 10 am-1 pm 2-10 pm
Thursdays   2-8 pm
Fridays 10 am-1 pm 2-8 pm
Saturdays 10 am-7 pm

Disclaimer:

Mission: Renaissance Fine Art School is fulfilling the following roles with respect to the competition:

    • Organizing and facilitating the competition
    • Promoting the competition within the community and schools
    • Collecting and organizing entries for judging
    • Providing a venue for judging
    • Displaying entries at the “Love Is In The Air” event to be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010 from 2 – 5 pm at the Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom in Valencia.
    • Providing prizes for the winning entries.

Mission: Renaissance is in no way affiliated with the judges or involved in the judging. Judges will be selected from the community by the Santa Clarita Creative Guild.

The competition will have a blind judging process. This means signatures will be covered and contest entries will be numbered. Judges will not have access to contestant information or entry forms. Entries will be numbered based on a random selection process. This is to provide all contestants an opportunity to be judged without bias.

Judges selections will be made during the week prior to the event. Selected entries will be displayed by name at the Sunday, March 14 event. Winning entries will be announced and awards will be distributed at that time.

Art work will be returned to contestants immediately following the end of the event. Any artwork not claimed by contestants at the close of the event will be available for pickup at Mission: Renaissance Valencia Studio at the same times listed for drop-off. Mission: Renaissance will dispose of any unclaimed art work after April 15, 2010.

Mission: Renaissance and any sponsors and partners of the event shall not be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged art work. Any such loss or damages that occur prior to judging will result in a returned entry fee.

The prestigious “Love Is In The Air” event is being held on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Ballroom, located on McBean and Town Center Drive, in Valencia from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Ticket prices are $25/person at the door. Students and early bird $15/person. This year’s event will feature refreshments, music, a silent auction, live artist’s demonstrations, youth art contest awards and a gallery of art works by local artists. Funds raised benefit the Senior Center and various community youth programs. Attendance at the event is not required to win. But since this event benefits the whole community, attendance is greatly appreciated.
